• 1.0 out of 5 stars from Kindle Customer -- Not a good outing for the author this time : I have read a number of this authors works and enjoyed them. Not this time. The MC was really horrible and the MC's partner was just as bad. The humor, what little there was, was grade school level. Also the writing really came off as preachy. The MC is a vegetarian and the author almost couldn't resist bringing that up so often I ended up just skipping pages. In fact, I don't remember ever skipping so many pages in a book. I want to be entertained, not preached to. I eventually just skipped to the last chapter just to see how it ended. So in reality I probably only read 55% of this book and I will not be reading the the next one. Hopefully I'll find another of her books to enjoy, as I said I have enjoyed many of her other works. Mckewen -- disappointing read which is very unusual for this author : Well I never thought I would be writing a negative review for one of my favorite authors but this series is not for me. I just don't know what to say. I disliked all the characters and the way she has imagined both magic and the shifters. No heroes, not much action, no romance, and a light weight plot. The attempt at humorous dialogue also lost my interest. Too much and most of it not funny. Much of it reminded me of a middle school student. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Barbara Elness -- Witches & Werewolves : Morgen Keller is newly divorced and unemployed and when her grandmother dies and leaves her property to Morgen, she travels to the small town of Bellrock, Washington to settle the estate. She never expected werewolves, witches and a magical inheritance, along with the mystery of her grandmother’s death to solve. Being an introverted database programmer, all of this isn’t exactly up Morgen’s alley, but with the help of the resident werewolf who was her grandmother’s friend, Morgen is determined to discover who wanted her grandmother dead. Most of the witches Morgen runs into are not too friendly, and the werewolves are even worse, but I liked the way she doesn’t let that deter her from her investigation. With plenty of humor, which is something I always enjoy from this author, and dangerous situations as well, this was a wonderful start to the new series A Witch in Wolf Wood. The introduction of magical or paranormal or sci-fi-fantasy worlds where fully 1/3 of the book - or more - is the protagonist fumbling and bumbling around unable to comprehend that the AU is the AU is far less enjoyable to read than author’s likely imagine. • 3.0 out of 5 stars from Frenchy0311 -- A good read : Naturally I didn't love it, hence the 3 stars. The reasons why I didn't love it might possibly be the reason you do, though. I have to love the characters in the book to love the story, and unfortunately I didnt. The female MC was waaay too accommodating to the main male MC especially after he basically attacks her and tries to scare her off, and the very next day, she's agreeing to do what he orders because ahe doesn't want to anger him since he lives in her barn...rent free. Hello!! Its her house now, why the he'll would u want to continue to let a person stay anywhere on your property if they scare u. Give him the boot! The whole book was basically like this, he's a hateful prejudice man and she's constantly complimenting and accommodating his every whim. I have this feeling the reading is supposed to some how come to find his gruff-ness endearing, but I didnt. He wasn't gruff, he's an ass. None of it was cute to me. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from John Prigent -- Not a disappointment! : I like Lindsey Buroker's other stories so thought it worth trying her exploration of a different mileu. I wasn't disappointed! Here she ventures into a present-day fantasy with witches and werewolves in a small US town. Our Morgen Keller's grandmother has died and left her a house and extensive land, and some of her family aren't happy about it. To add to the mixture there's not one but two werewolf packs in the town, at daggers drawn with each other, plus a complex bunch of witches! And poor Morgen then discovers that one of the werewolves lives alone in her grandmother's barn and carves wooden art. Oh, and to add complications it seems that most of the townsfolk don't like strangers. This is all difficult for the stranger to keep track of - who hates whom and why? Then she slowly realises that she's a witch herself even though she doesn't know anything about being a witch! I really enjoyed this book, and bought the second volume and started reading it straight away. A third is expected soon, so I'll be getting that as soon as it's available! So enjoyed reading this first stand alone book, it was magical, fun and easy to read having a good plot and really strong characters. As with the other books Lindsay wrote you will want to read more of this incredible author. I can recommend her books to anyone who loves reading adventure, action and also humour included in stories you can yourself immerse in while reading.
